Sons Of Icarus, a brand new, young, British, organic, visceral four piece hard rock band, are all set to soar into rock’s heady stratosphere with the release of their debut 4 track EP, ‘You Want It All’, via itunes etc. on December 19th.
Vocalist Andy Masson and his bassist brother Alex met drummer Mike ‘Quilly’ Mcquillan at school in Brackley, Northamptonshire, where they got together as a three piece and jammed constantly in a mate’s garage, covering classic AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith songs.
Originally named The Fury, the trio moved to Guildford and enrolled at the Academy of Contemporary Music, where they met and recruited guitarist Steve Balkwill. Initially mainly classic rock / blues oriented, they soon incorporated Steve’s stoner rock background (he grew up riffing to Kyuss and Orange Goblin) to develop their own unique brand of full throttle, high octane, straight ahead, JD swilling, grinding hard rock.
After beating hundreds of groups to win Marshall Amplifiers’ ‘Ultimate Band Contest’ in December 2010, Sons Of Icarus won major management representation, and, subsequently, opening slots at both 2011’s Download and Sonisphere Festivals.
Sons Of Icarus then stepped up to the plate to play explosive support slots around London with the likes of Vintage Trouble, Black Spiders, Rival Sons, Hayseed Dixie, The Answer, and Orange Goblin (Steve’s heroes!). Now, having recorded their simply stunning debut 4 track EP, Sons of Icarus are set to ignite live audiences at the following gigs:-
January:
6th – Water Rats London – on satge 9pm
13th – Bikers Club – coalville Notts
14th – Black Market – Nottingham
20th Royal Albion – Reading
27th – Heroes Kentish town – London
Feb:
17th – Jubilee Club – Barfly London
The future is bright for Sons Of Icarus, who look all set to fly very high, but never too close to the sun... And once the rock cognoscenti hear ‘You Want It All’, Sons of Icarus are bound to be proclaimed THE band to watch out for in 2012.
